Chef Marvin Woods is a beloved Emmy® Award-nominated television host, celebrated chef, restaurateur, author of lauded cookbooks, Home Plate Cooking and The New Low Country Cooking and a 30-year veteran in the hospitality and restaurant industry. Chef Woods trained and started at such notable restaurants as The Sea Grill at Rockefeller Center, Windows on the World, Helmsley Palace, Quatorze, Arizona 206 and Café Beulah. Café Beulah is where he created a culinary conversation about Low Country cuisine. He has lived and worked in Europe as well as doing short stints in the Caribbean, South America and Africa.
In the fall of 2009, he cooked at the White House for the first state dinner. In June 2010 he kicked off Michelle Obama's Lets Move! healthy cooking for families initiative. He has been interviewed and featured on Food Network, CBS' Chef on a Shoestring, and Today Show. Currently, Marvin is a segment host on GPB (Georgia Public Broadcast) Georgia Cooks, and WSB as well as being a featured contributor to CBSNews.com, Country Living and Cooking Light Magazine. Woods is a James Beard Foundation "star" chef who has volunteered his time and talents to American Heart & Stroke Association, American Diabetes Association, CHOICES, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Camp Sunshine, Share Our Strength Piedmont & St Joseph Hospitals; and is co-chair of the Edna Lewis Foundation board of trustees.
Chef Woods has served as a consultant, been a spokesperson for or represented: Publix supermarkets, SCANA energy and SCE&G, Georgia Natural Gas, Food Lion supermarkets, Mission Foods, Whole Foods, Char Broil Grills, Kitchen Aid, Sodexho, and is currently a UnitedHealthcare partner.
