University Medical Center Receives $7,175,000 Grant from UnitedHealth Group and Sierra Health Services
LAS VEGAS (June 10, 2008) UnitedHealth Group (NYSE:UNH) and its Sierra Health Services, Inc., business unit, announced that it has awarded a $7,175,000 grant to University Medical Center (UMC) as part of the companies' ongoing commitment to enhance health care delivery in Nevada.
The grant, funded over five years, will create a community fund to improve access to vital health care services for uninsured and underinsured Southern Nevadans and help Clark County's only public, nonprofit hospital expand its preventive health initiatives.
"As a public hospital operating the only Level I Trauma Center in the state, UMC is a critical partner in boosting efforts to create a healthier Nevada," said Jonathon Bunker, chief executive officer for the southwest region of UnitedHealthcare. "We are pleased to offer our support to help UMC serve more people, particularly the underserved that face challenges in accessing affordable, quality care."
"We are pleased that UnitedHealth recognizes UMC as an asset to the community," said Kathy Silver, UMC CEO. "This grant will enable UMC to continue its mission of providing quality medical care to the residents of Southern Nevada."
The contribution is part of an overall $15 million commitment to Nevada by UnitedHealth Group and Sierra Health. The grants and their identified uses are well-aligned with UnitedHealth Group/Sierra Health's historic and ongoing commitment to improve the health care delivery system across Nevada.
