UnitedHealthcare Launches PlanBien for Arizona Latinos; Plan Combines Health Benefits, Bilingual Support Services
PHOENIX (Sept. 24, 2009) UnitedHealthcare's PlanBienSM, an innovative suite of health plans featuring unique services to enhance the health and well-being of Spanish-speaking individuals, is now available in Arizona.
PlanBien incorporates linguistically and culturally relevant health information and customer service programs into its plan designs at no extra charge, ensuring the coverage is tailored to meet the unique health care needs of Latinos. These resources include printed and online materials in both Spanish and English and information about health topics of particular interest to Latinos, such as diabetes management and heart health. Plan participants also have access to bilingual customer service representatives who can answer questions and help locate Spanish-speaking doctors.
An online directory identifies physician offices with Spanish-speaking doctors and staff, making it easier for customers to find a doctor close to their home or work. PlanBien customers also have access to UnitedHealthcare's broad national health care provider network of approximately 590,000 physicians and care professionals and more than 4,900 hospitals.
PlanBien is available now to Arizona businesses with between two and 99 employees; within the next few months, the plans will expand to businesses with 100 employees or more. PlanBien is being sold exclusively in Arizona through Vive Bien, a Scottsdale, Ariz.-based insurance agency that offers medical, dental and life insurance plans specifically tailored for Latinos.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Latinos are the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. work force. Also, Arizona has one of the nation's largest Latino populations, with about 30 percent of state residents of Hispanic or Latino origin.
"In developing PlanBien, we enhanced UnitedHealthcare's quality and cost-effective health benefit plans with innovative support services that help address two growing areas of concern: the need to reduce the rate of the uninsured among the Hispanic population, and the effort to help Hispanics many of whom communicate more comfortably in Spanish better understand their health plan and become more engaged in their health care. We believe PlanBien can make a positive impact on both fronts," said Benton Davis, president and CEO of UnitedHealthcare of Arizona, a UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) company.
"PlanBien helps to more fully engage Latinos in their health care and well-being by providing information and resources designed specifically to meet their needs," said Joe de la Vara, president of Vive Bien. "Our collaboration with UnitedHealthcare will enable us to provide businesses an effective way to encourage wellness among their Spanish-speaking employees."
PlanBien is currently offered in California, Florida and Texas as well as Arizona. More information about PlanBien is available online in Spanish and English at www.planbien.info and www.uhclatino.com.
