Texas Legends and UnitedHealthcare Partner to Fight Childhood Obesity and Diabetes
FRISCO, Texas (Nov. 18, 2010) - The Texas Legends and UnitedHealthcare announce "3-Pointers for Health," a new promotion to help fight childhood obesity and commonly associated health problems such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
For every three-point basket a Legend makes during a home game throughout the team's 2010-2011 season, UnitedHealthcare will donate $10 to the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas to support programs aimed at halting childhood obesity. Fans can also donate to the cause during any of the team's 24 home games this season.
"We are thrilled to enter this partnership with UnitedHealthcare," said Donnie Nelson, owner of the Legends and general manager of the Dallas Mavericks. "Every three pointer we score will mean much more this year than just a chance to win a game; it will also help support the YMCA and put our area youth on a path to better health!"
"We look forward to working alongside an organization that shares a commitment to helping kids live healthier lives," said Scott Flannery, CEO, UnitedHealthcare of North Texas, a UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) company. "We believe our partnership with the Texas Legends signals the beginning of a successful relationship that can make a positive impact on North Texans' health and quality of life."
As of 2007, nearly 24 million people in the United States had diabetes. Earlier this year, UnitedHealth Group launched a program with the Y designed to help people at risk for type 2 diabetes prevent the disease through healthy eating, increased activity and other lifestyle changes.
UnitedHealthcare is a leading health and well-being company that serves more than 2.3 million Texans with a health care network statewide of more than 44,000 physicians and 450 hospitals.
