ARTICLE Louisiana Golf Tournament Raises More Than $30,000 for Children's Health Needs

NEW ORLEANS (Dec. 8, 2011) - Golfers from across Louisiana and the Gulf States region have raised $30,000 to help families in need of financial assistance pay for their children's medical services that are not covered, or not fully covered, by a family's commercial health insurance plan.

The money was raised at the 2011 UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation Golf Classic at English Turn Golf & Country Club on Nov. 10. The tournament was hosted by the UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation (UHCCF) with generous sponsorship support from area corporations, hospitals and businesses.

Sponsors of the 2011 UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation Golf Classic in Louisiana included:

  • Platinum Sponsor - Hub International
  • Silver Sponsors - Ochsner Health System and Bancorp South Insurance Services Inc. (Wright & Percy Insurance)
  • Bronze Sponsors - UnitedHealthcare Community & State, USI and Regions Insurance Inc.

Proceeds from the annual fund-raising golf classic enable the foundation to help families in need of financial assistance pay for their children's treatments, such as speech and developmental delays, hearing loss, autism, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy. UHCCF is a national nonprofit organization that has provided financial assistance totaling more than $2.7 million in 2011 alone to families across the United States, including Louisiana.

Additional funds were raised for UHCCF from a live auction that offered items such as an autographed football signed by Super Bowl-winning quarterback Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints; a pair of sneakers autographed by Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets; a diamond pendant from Hiller Jewelry; hotel and resort stays along the Gulf Coast; dinners at renowned area restaurants; and other items from numerous Gulf States businesses and attractions.

"The UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation is dedicated to helping families have greater access to medical-related services that can help improve their children's health and quality of life," said Glen J. Golemi, CEO, UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual of the Gulf States. "The foundation recognizes that some families experience gaps in coverage for certain medical treatments and equipment, so we are strongly committed to helping fill that void."
