ARTICLE New Mexico Small Businesses Now Have More Health Benefit Options With UnitedHealthcare's 'Multi-Choice' Plan

Albuquerque, N.M. (Dec. 13, 2011) — UnitedHealthcare is offering a new health plan package in New Mexico called Multi-Choice that gives small businesses across the state more benefit plan options they can offer their employees, while keeping cost-effective coverage in place.

Multi-Choice, available to businesses with up to 50 employees, enables employers to offer their employees as many as 16 different health plan options, each with different coverage levels, deductibles and premiums. Employers choose their level of financial contribution and assemble a package of benefit designs for their employees; each employee then has the opportunity to select a plan that best meets his or her needs. Traditionally, small businesses are only able to offer their employees one or two plan options.

The increased flexibility makes offering health insurance more cost-effective and financially predictable, enabling small businesses to budget effectively for this important employee benefit.

Multi-Choice gives employees several health plan options to choose from, including:

  • traditional benefit designs with various premium, deductible and coinsurance levels;
  • consumer-driven designs paired with a health savings account (HSA);
  • and health plans that add specialty benefits, including dental, life, disability and vision coverage.

"Small businesses in New Mexico are looking for health care options that are both cost-effective and flexible, and that is why Multi-Choice will be an attractive option for those employers," said Sherrye Butler, vice president, HUB International Insurance Services Inc., a general insurance brokerage and consulting company in New Mexico. "This innovative package of health benefit plans will provide employers and their employees with a new level of choice and financial predictability."

"UnitedHealthcare is helping more small businesses preserve coverage for their employees — and in fact, increase their options — while still controlling costs," said Beth Soberg, CEO, UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual in New Mexico. "We recognize that small businesses and their employees are faced with many challenges in today?s economic environment, so we created Multi-Choice to give them flexible, cost-effective health care options."

Multi-Choice plan participants have access to UnitedHealthcare's wellness and disease management programs, 24/7 access to OptumHealth's NurseLineSM, and a national network of more than 650,000 physicians and other care providers and 5,000 hospitals, including 36 hospitals and more than 3,300 physicians and other care providers in New Mexico.
