ARTICLE New Permian Basin Health Insurance Cooperative Offers Quality, Cost-Effective Health Plans for Midland- and Odessa-Area Businesses

MIDLAND, Texas (Nov. 14 2011) — The Midland and Odessa chambers of commerce and UnitedHealthcare have launched the Permian Basin Health Insurance Cooperative to help Permian Basin employers offer their employees quality, cost-effective health benefit plans.

The new insurance cooperative is available to business owners who are members of the Midland and Odessa chambers of commerce. Under the program, businesses that enroll with UnitedHealthcare through the chambers will receive a 7-percent reduction on premiums on select medical plans, and have an option for additional 5-percent savings on their bundled dental and vision plans.

UnitedHealthcare offers a broad care provider network of physicians and health care professionals in Midland and Odessa including Midland Memorial Hospital, Medical Center Health System and Odessa Regional Medical Center.

The goal of the program is to increase the number of workers with health care coverage, improve their well-being and access to care, and help businesses be competitive through a healthy workforce. The Permian Basin Health Insurance Cooperative follows similar efforts by other Texas chambers of commerce.

"Recent federal health care legislation is poised to significantly affect small-business owners. The Midland Chamber is actively working to help our small-business members reduce that impact on their bottom line by offering access to discounted UnitedHealthcare health benefit plans through this co-op," said Bobby Burns, president and CEO, the Midland Chamber of Commerce.

"The Permian Basin Health Insurance Cooperative is a good example of what can be accomplished for the citizens of the Permian Basin when we work together for a common cause," said Mike George, president and CEO, the Odessa Chamber of Commerce.

"UnitedHealthcare has long offered quality, cost-effective health benefit solutions for businesses and their employees in Texas. As we help launch the Permian Basin Health Insurance Cooperative, our team of professionals is dedicated to maintaining excellent service to our customers and health care provider partners," said Scott Flannery, CEO, UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual of North Texas.
