UnitedHealthcare and the Lime Truck Donate $16,000 to Families in Santa Clara, San Mateo Counties This Holiday Season
CONCORD, Calif. (Dec. 13, 2011) UnitedHealthcare and the Lime Truck have donated $16,000 to help provide nutritious food and housing, as well as improve children's health, for individuals and families during the upcoming holiday season.
The donations will support Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, as well as the Housing Trust of Santa Clara County and Santa Clara County Children's Health Initiative. The Lime Truck, which is working with UnitedHealthcare to promote healthy eating by making lunchtime visits at businesses across California, also agreed to donate a portion of its sales to community food banks.
"Support from companies like UnitedHealthcare and the Lime Truck is crucial for meeting the needs of local families this holiday season and beyond," said Kathy Jackson, CEO, Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. "We are grateful for this support because we are seeing unprecedented need. The number of people receiving help from the Food Bank each month has increased by nearly 50 percent since the recession started."
Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties annually distributes more than 45 million pounds of nutritious food to low-income people in need. The food bank partners with about 300 nonprofit agencies to provide food at more than 650 pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and after-school programs in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.

UnitedHealthcare and the Lime Truck also recently donated more than $6,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.
