State Estimates Impact of Federal Health Reform Legislation
Nov. 11, 2009 The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) has released a report estimating the impact of federal health reform legislation on the state Medicaid program. Expansion of Medicaid eligibility to all individuals under 133% of the federal poverty level, as passed by the Senate Finance Committee, is estimated to increase Medicaid enrollment by 1.4 million people at a state cost of over $700 million in 2016. The bill passed by the House that increases Medicaid eligibility to all individuals under 150% of the federal poverty level is estimated to increase Medicaid enrollment by 1.7 million people and increase state spending for Medicaid by over $1 billion in 2016.
