"What would I do if I were not afraid?" That's the question Debra had to consider in 2011, when she decided to receive a second chemo treatment for breast cancer, followed by a third in 2013.
Then, under the care of a well-known oncologist/researcher at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York, they had amazing results after four treatments. Debra's CT scans revealed no evidence of lesions on her brain or lungs.
She now enjoys a "near normal life" with just a few side effects that hardly stand in her way. The tremendous care Debra received from her employer, Delta Airlines, UnitedHealthcare's Cancer Resource team of professionals, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center of Excellence, family and friends has helped make all the difference.
Newly available drugs, in addition to conventional medicine, are proving very effective for Debra as she continues to do "her part," as she calls it. Being proactive in her health care helps curb the side effects.
She says all of this has played a huge role in making a difference in moving through cancer treatment. Being proactive with care and forming a partnership with doctors along with the cancer support team at UnitedHealthcare set the course change.
We are happy to report Debra has the wonderful blessing of returning to active flight status this year.
