We are pleased to announce that Paul Sharkey has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Mid‑Atlantic Health Plan.
Paul joined UnitedHealth Group in 2008 and has since held a variety of leadership positions within Small Business and Key Accounts. In his most recent role, Paul served as executive director for the Pennsylvania/Delaware market, where he consistently delivered strong outcomes through effective execution, strategic leadership, and developing high-performing teams. His extensive knowledge of the health insurance industry and distribution channels uniquely positions him to guide the organization with both insight and agility.
Known for his collaborative style, Paul has made significant progress in broker engagement, market and network expansion, and data-driven decision-making. His talent for building teams and achieving results was central to the success of the Pennsylvania market.
“I am humbled and excited to continue UnitedHealthcare’s mission of helping people live healthier lives and making the health system work better for everyone,” said Sharkey. “I look forward to building relationships across the Mid‑Atlantic region as I work with our clients, brokers, providers, and constituents to make health care more affordable and accessible.”
Paul is active with several charitable and nonprofit organizations, including the American Cancer Society. In 2014, Paul and his wife, Martha, co-founded Today is a Good Day, an organization providing hope and community for families with neo-natal intensive care experiences.
Paul earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and international business from The Pennsylvania State University. He and his wife and their daughters, Claire (15) and Rose (10), are in the process of relocating to be closer to his new team in the Mid-Atlantic.
We are confident in Paul’s leadership and excited about the future of Mid‑Atlantic Health Plan as we continue to support our clients and partners through strong leadership and collaboration.
