Service updates impacting new and renewing CA large groups (101+) with HMO plans

Beginning April 1, 2026, new and renewing California large groups (101+) with HMO plans will begin to leverage a modernized experience.

Beginning April 1, 2026, we are expanding to deliver an enhanced, modernized experience to your new and renewing California large groups with HMO plans. For the renewing clients, these changes will become effective upon their upcoming renewal.

An important informational guide for employers and brokers will be included in the renewal package.

This guide contains information for your clients that they will need to know for their transition to the modernized experience.

1. Employer groups will either 1) receive a new group number upon their renewal effective date or 2) their HMO plans may be moved into the same group number as their non-HMO plans. If they have any other plans, the group number for those plans will not change.

  • The new group number will be  shared upon confirmation of your renewal with UnitedHealthcare
  • The new group number will facilitate new member ID cards. This flier can be sent to members enrolled encouraging use of new ID cards. Brokers should consider working with impacted employer groups to send this information to their HMO members.

2. If clients use Optum Bank to administer their health savings account (HSA), UnitedHealthcare will transition all plan details automatically for enrolled members. New member debit cards are not necessary. To administer their plan, employer groups will receive an email from Optum Bank, including instructions on how to re-register with their new group number.

3. Based on a client’s current elections, there may be additional changes that are outlined in the guide, such as billing and payment information, and how they work with third-party administrators (such as payroll and eligibility vendors).

4. If retroactive adjustments are required on your client’s account that span renewal periods, refer to the renewal insert in the renewal package for details on how these adjustments will appear on the invoice.

5. The only impact to HMO members is that they will receive a new ID card.

  • All members will still use myuhc.com®. If a member is already registered on myuhc.com, they can continue to use the same HealthSafe ID they use today.
  • Prior authorizations, accumulators and primary care provider elections will automatically transition with the member

6. Employers and brokers can find plan information, manage members, download copies of health plan ID cards, and view or pay their invoices on uhceservices.com.

  • Users of the Employer eServices® (EeS) site will be able to log in to uhceservices.com with their existing One Healthcare ID and password
  • If you use TPA services, your portal access and payment information may be different. Please reach out to your TPA for eligibility and billing items.

Throughout the process, anything not yet supported on the new tools will continue to be supported on existing UnitedHealthcare systems until they are transitioned.
