As CEO, Garland is responsible for leading the health plan to deliver affordable, quality health care programs to employers and over 2.4 million members in the Carolinas, which provide broad access to physicians and advanced member tools and technology to improve the overall health and well-being of the population served for the commercial group line business. Garland joined UnitedHealthcare as CEO with UnitedHealthcare of Tennessee and Arkansas. Prior to that, he was with John Deere Health for 14 years, serving as CEO of Iowa and Illinois and CEO of Tennessee and Virginia. John Deere Health was acquired by UnitedHealthcare in 2005. Garland has over 30 years of experience working in the health care and insurance industries. He holds Bachelor of Science and MBA degrees in Economics and Finance from East Tennessee State University.
