Services approved by UnitedHealthcare scheduled to occur with a Brown University Health physician after the out of network date of July 1 will be covered for our UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage members. We will reimburse Brown University Health just as Traditional Medicare would pay and in accordance with the member’s benefit plan for the services provided.

UnitedHealthcare members who are in the middle of treatment with a Brown University Health physician at the time they left our network on July 1 may qualify for continuity of care. Continuity of care provides continued in-network benefits for a period of time after a hospital or physician leaves our network. An example of a patient who may qualify includes but is not limited to:

  • Patients with newly diagnosed or relapsed cancer, or those currently in active cancer treatment.

UnitedHealthcare members can apply for continuity of care any time. People who have questions about continuity of care, how to apply or whether they might be eligible, should call the number on their health plan ID card.

Brown University Health’s hospitals and physicians will continue to participate in our network for the following UnitedHealthcare benefit plans:

  • Employer-sponsored commercial plans
  • Individual Family Plan (IFP)
  • Medicaid (UnitedHealthcare Community Plan)
  • Dual Special Needs Plan (DSNP)
  • Institutional Special Needs Plan (ISNP)
  • Medicare supplemental plans

Members enrolled in these UnitedHealthcare benefit plans are not impacted by the July 1 network change for Medicare Advantage plans and can continue to access in-network services at Brown University Health.
