Preventive Drug List expanded to select markets

Beginning Jan. 1, 2019, UnitedHealthcare is expanding the Preventive Drug List optional buy-up offered in select markets.

This buy-up is available to fully insured key account customers, and is built in to Oxford plans as well as select small business plans in Florida where a high deductible health plan (HDHP) is coupled with a health savings account (HSA).

This supplemental coverage, when added to high-deductible health plans (HDHPs), and coupled with pharmacy, is designed to help with member costs for preventive medications by allowing these drugs to bypass the deductible. The availability of the Preventive Drug List is being expanded in select markets due to the success of this product in its limited release.

Three drug list options are already available for certain key account fully insured and self-funded customers:

  • UnitedHealthcare Core: Medications include breast cancer prevention, cardiovascular/heart disease (blood clot, blood pressure, cholesterol), organ rejection, osteoporosis and prenatal vitamins.
  • UnitedHealthcare Core Plus: Medications include the Core List, as well as medications for diabetes and asthma/COPD.
  • UnitedHealthcare Expanded: Medications include those on the Core Plus List, as well as medications for HIV/AIDS – anti-infectives, multiple sclerosis and psychosis – schizophrenia.
