At UnitedHealthcare, we design our health care plans to help motivate health ownership among members. The data shows that what is sustainable value for the long term is getting people to make an optimal choice at the first opportunity – whether preventive, lifestyle or care treatments.
One national digital wellness program, UnitedHealthcare Motion®, helps participants monitor steps and earn financial incentives when they reach the program’s daily walking targets. Plan participants have access to activity trackers that may enable them to earn more than $1,000 per year by meeting certain daily walking goals*.
UnitedHealthcare Motion includes multiple activity tracker device buy up options, and later this year eligible participants will be able use Apple Watch® (initially paying only tax and shipping), with the option to apply program earnings toward the purchase price of the device. Program participants will be able to own – with a zero balance – the watch in as little as six months by meeting daily walking goals. UnitedHealthcare Motion participants who already own Apple Watch will be able to use it with the program.
To celebrate the many benefits of walking, and recognize National Walking Day on April 4, UnitedHealthcare launched the Step Up for Better Health Sweepstakes. It runs during Move More Month (April), enabling people to become eligible for a chance to win one of several walking-related prizes, including:
- Grand Prizes: Apple Watch (10 total);
- Regular Prizes: $100 gift cards to Foot Locker (100 total); and
- Family Prizes: NERF ENERGY Game Kits (100 total).
People can sign the pledge to walk more and become eligible for a chance to win one of the prizes at uhcwalkingmaps.com, which provides information about the health benefits of walking and offers curated 10,000-step walking routes of more than 50 cities across the country. As part of the sweepstakes, UnitedHealthcare will donate $25,000 total on behalf of the first 25,000 people to sign the pledge to Boys & Girls Clubs to help reduce childhood obesity.
