UnitedHealthcare expands place of service plan offering in North and South Carolina

North Carolina and South Carolina fully insured standard plan offerings will include a new place of service benefit design effective July 1, 2018.

These Advanced place of service plans are designed with a lower cost-share when members seek outpatient care from freestanding facilities. Freestanding facilities typically offer the same outpatient services as in a hospital setting, but at a lower cost. The place of service plans provide options that can help control costs and keep health care sustainable for members and employers.

Outpatient services available at freestanding facilities include:

  • Routine lab and X-ray
  • CT scans, PET scans, MRIs and nuclear medicine
  • Outpatient surgery
  • Diagnostic visualization, biopsy and polyp removal

Members can find freestanding facilities in the provider search on myuhc.com or uhc.com by looking for the “Freestanding Facility” indicator.

Some freestanding facilities include:

  • Ambulatory surgicenters
  • Laboratory facilities
  • MRI centers
  • Outpatient diagnostic/treatment centers
  • X-Ray and radiology facilities
