Dave Abbott Granola with Love

Recipe submitted by Pro Cyclist Mara Abbott

My dad got fed up with the granola in the grocery store being "too sweet," so he started making his own. It is so fun, because you can substitute and experiment with infinite variations, and it is the easiest way in the world to make your kitchen smell AMAZING.

  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 8 cups oats
  • 1 cup almonds
  • 1 cup cashew, pieces
  • 1 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1 cup wheat germ (optional)

  1. Mix dry ingredients.
  2. Heat 1/2 cup oil and 1/2 cup honey so honey is liquid, add a pinch of salt.
  3. Mix ingredients and dump into a large baking pan.
  4. Cook at 350 degrees for about 30-40 minutes. Stir every 10 minutes or so.

Optional additions: Nut and flavor varieties are infinite. Coconut is one of my favorites. You can add dried fruit or banana chips at the end – no need to bake.

24 half cup servings
