Being there: 1 to 1 help and resources from UnitedHealthcare support Andre’s cancer journey

ANDRE SHOUCAIR: I am alive because of UnitedHealthcare. I'm Andre Shoucair. I'm a school resource deputy at a local elementary school. December 21, 2017, is when I was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer Additionally, I have carcinoid syndrome, which is a chronic illness that 10% of the patients somehow get. When I was diagnosed, I went to my sheriff, Dennis Lemma, and I said, "Sheriff, I get it. I understand if you have to let me go." He hugged me. We both cried. And he said, "You're family. You have nothing to worry about."

DENNIS LEMMA: Knowing that there's something that we can do, and help and resources that we can provide, allows us to sleep comfortably at night. So, here, with the assistance of UnitedHealthcare, we completely re-engineered our employee benefits program to make it more user-friendly and accommodating to collaterally focus on physical health and mental health.

ANDRE SHOUCAIR: I have had 150 treatments. I have every scan and scope, multiple times done, and several surgeries as well. I had a one-on-one coach, basically, through UnitedHealthcare, navigating and talking and dealing with the billing, dealing with the medical world that is so foreign to many of us.

DENNIS LEMMA: He has not been alone on this journey, and I would like to think that our team, here at the Seminole County Sheriff's Office, our team with UnitedHealthcare, we're all with him for the long haul in this thing.

ANDRE SHOUCAIR: I am alive because of UnitedHealthcare and the coverage that I receive. And I'm just so blessed and thankful to have this opportunity.
