UHC Store feature: Dario provides metabolic health support
If you need help managing your blood pressure, diabetes and other metabolic issues, you may have the ability to purchase digital tools that may make it easier to find support outside the doctor’s office.
UnitedHealthcare is working to help make it easier for members to personalize their health care experience with more access to health and lifestyle offerings to support their personal needs.
The UHC Store is a digital shopping experience that allows eligible members to purchase health and wellness offerings to complement their benefits at any time throughout the year – most offered at a discount.
Offerings in UHC Store include support for women’s health, mental health, weight management, nutrition and fitness, chronic conditions and more with an average discount of 26% off retail prices.
Dario, for example, is a digital offering available in UHC Store that integrates support across different needs, including metabolic health conditions like diabetes, hypertension and weight-related challenges.
Improving metabolic health isn’t just about managing a single condition. It’s about addressing interconnected risk factors that may impact overall well-being and productivity. Dario’s goal is to help make it easier to engage in meaningful, sustained behavior change that lasts long term.
“Through UHC Store, Dario is helping expand access to integrated, personalized chronic condition support,” said Steven Nelson, president and chief commercial officer at Dario. “Together with UnitedHealthcare, our goal is to help simplify how members engage with metabolic health support that may improve outcomes while helping employers manage rising health care costs.”
How does Dario work?
One of the key pillars of Dario’s mission is that health outcomes often are decided between the touchpoints in the health care system — whether that’s a doctor’s visit or picking up a prescription. Life can get busy in those in-between moments, and it can be easy to lose sight of one’s overall health goals. Dario focuses on daily behavior, and acts as a support tool to help people stay on track.
For example, if someone was struggling with high blood pressure, Dario would provide them with a connected monitor, which syncs to an app that helps track progress and provides detailed progress reports. They would also be connected to a certified, personal coach and receive educational content for additional support.
“My father’s experience with his diabetes was entirely centered around doctor's visits,” said Erez Raphael, who co-founded Dario. “The lack of day-to-day support made it much harder for him to maintain his health between appointments, when it mattered most. We are proud Dario is available through UHC Store to help make it easier for UnitedHealthcare’s members to access metabolic health support.”
The results have proven to be effective. For hypertension, 38% of users reduced their blood pressure by one stage.1
Dario and UHC Store
Taking the first step with Dario may help members have support through their metabolic health. With the tools available within the app, Dario can be a constant source of support with challenging chronic health conditions.
“Health and wellness support should be simpler than it has been in the past and feel more personalized to each member’s needs and experience,” said Rhonda Randall, chief medical officer for UnitedHealthcare’s commercial business. “UHC Store is one way we are working to help people personalize their health care journey with offerings like Dario that are designed to help support better health.”
With UHC Store, eligible commercial members can shop for programs as needs arise to help them thrive in their own health and wellness journey.
