Marta shapes the UnitedHealthcare app through member input and her own experience
As a senior product director for UnitedHealthcare, Marta helps lead the team behind the UnitedHealthcare app — a digital tool that millions of members use to manage their health care every day.
For Marta, the app isn’t just about technology. It’s about people. “I’m a UnitedHealthcare member too,” she says. “When we build new features, I think about what I’d want as a mom and as a member.”
Marta joined the team at a pivotal time. In 2022, more members were downloading the app than ever before. Her team saw an opportunity to make the experience even better, more intuitive, personal and useful in daily life. “We wanted to help people not only understand their benefits but also make the most of them,” she says.
Under Marta’s leadership, the app evolved quickly. Members can now pull up their ID card, search for care by health condition, check costs before a visit, or refill prescriptions, all from their phone. “We know health care moments can be stressful,” Marta says. “Our goal is to give people easy access to what they need, when they need it.”
The team listens closely to member feedback and makes continuous improvements. A recent update, for example, simplified the process for submitting claims by letting members upload a photo of their receipt. “That idea came straight from what we heard members asking for,” she says.
As both a team leader and a new parent, Marta draws from her own life to guide her work. “Becoming a mom gave me a whole new perspective,” she says. “When I’m choosing a pediatrician or managing care for my daughter, I see firsthand how important it is for our tools to be clear and helpful.”
Millions of members use the UnitedHealthcare app each month — from teenagers just learning about coverage to older adults managing multiple benefits. Seeing that growth reminds Marta why she does this work.
“Even if our impact feels small, helping someone get care more easily matters,” she says. “That’s what keeps me excited about what we do.”
