How advocacy helped Sarah navigate her claim
Following a regular screening mammogram, Sarah received a call from her doctor who recommended a diagnostic test and biopsies. Over the next month, she completed additional tests and remembers the day her doctor called to confirm an early stage of breast cancer. “Fortunately, we caught it early, so it was quite small and quite slow growing. But there's still a sense of surprise when it's you,” shared Sarah.
After paying the planned expenses for her successful health care treatments, Sarah received an unexpected bill. So, she called a UnitedHealthcare member advocate for help understanding it. The UnitedHealthcare advocate worked to find answers and wanted to make things right, Sarah recalls. The advocate discovered the radiology provider had billed Sarah inaccurately, and the final bill was greatly reduced. “I was grateful to have health insurance distilled down to an interaction between me and another human being who really cared about me receiving the help that I needed.”
At UnitedHealthcare, we’re dedicated to advocating for members in ways big and small. And if you need help understanding your health care claims, our advocates are only a call away to explain your health plan benefits and coverage.
