Supplying students with back-to-school essentials in Arizona
Preparing for a new school year can be fun and exciting — but sometimes overwhelming when it comes to purchasing the many supplies needed for kids to feel confident and ready.
To help ease some of the financial strain and stress that comes with the start of a new school year, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Arizona collaborated with Creighton School District to hold the 20th Annual UnitedHealthcare Back-to-School Health Fair. The event also included more than 30 community-based organizations.
Held at Excelencia School in Phoenix, over 170 families attended the event, where the Community Plan distributed 500 backpacks filled with school supplies at no cost. Health screenings, sports physicals and haircuts were also available to attendees, along with community resources on:
- Dental services
- Exercise and nutrition
- Education classes for adults
- Workforce development opportunities
- After-school programs
“We strive to ensure that the communities we serve have the resources they need to achieve better health outcomes,” said Jean Kalbacher, CEO of UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Arizona. “And we’re also working to connect families to services they may not be aware of, allowing them and their children to breathe a little easier headed into the school year.”
By collaborating with local organizations that provide education and information on how to support healthcare needs outside of the doctor’s office, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Arizona hopes to empower families with knowledge they can use to help improve their health and well-being.
“UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Arizona’s mission is to help people live healthier lives and make the health system work better for everyone,” Jean said. “We are honored to help put on this event and support the community in receiving important resources.”
