Preventing lead exposure: Helpful tips from our friends on Sesame Street

UnitedHealthcare has teamed up with Sesame Street to create Lead Away!

This program gives families information on preventing lead poisoning. Make sure your whole family knows these simple steps to stay safe from lead.

  1. Keep it clean
Lead can be found in dirt and dust. Leave shoes at the door to make sure dust and dirt stay outside. Wet-dust and wet-mop regularly.
  2. Wash your hands
Make sure your whole family washes their hands before eating.
  3. Avoid peeling paint
Keep your child away from dust and peeling paint.
  4. Check toys
Check your child's toys for dust and peeling paint.
  5. Get tested
Check with your doctor about the best time to test your child for lead. Usually children are tested at ages 1 and 2.*
