UnitedHealthcare, University of Miami Health System (UHealth) renew network relationship for commercial plans, Medicaid and Individual Family Plan
We’ve reached a multi-year agreement with the University of Miami Health System (UHealth) that provides continued, uninterrupted network access to the health system’s hospitals, facilities and its physicians for people enrolled in the following UnitedHealthcare plans:
- Employer-sponsored commercial plans
- Individual Family Plan (IFP)
- Medicaid (UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Florida)

Yes. We have finalized a multi-year agreement that provides people enrolled in the following UnitedHealthcare plans continued, uninterrupted network access to UHealth’s hospitals, facilities and its physicians:
- Employer-sponsored commercial plans
- Medicaid (UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Florida)
- Individual Family Plan (IFP)
There was never any disruption to in-network care at UHealth for people enrolled in these plans.
We have extended network access to UHealth for our Medicare Advantage Preferred Care Network. As a result, Preferred Care Network members will have continued, uninterrupted network access to UHealth’s hospitals, facilities and its physicians through Dec. 31, 2026.
However, UHealth will be out of network for our Preferred Care Network, beginning Jan. 1, 2027. We are informing our members of this change now so they can make an informed decision regarding their health care needs over the next several months. Current UnitedHealthcare Preferred Care Network members who switch to a new plan for 2027 that has UHealth in its network will have no gap in network access to the health system.
As a reminder, UHealth is out of network currently for all other UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans, excluding Preferred Care Network.
No. UHealth will be out of network for our Medicare Advantage Preferred Care Network, beginning Jan. 1, 2027.
Our top priority is providing people uninterrupted access to the care they need. That is why we have extended network access to UHealth through Dec. 31, 2026 and are notifying members of this change now so they can make an informed decision regarding their health care needs during the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) later this year.
Current UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage members who switch to a new plan for 2027 that has UHealth in its network will have no gap in network access to the health system.
Yes. Medicare Supplement plans are not impacted by our negotiation for the Preferred Care Network. People with a Medicare Supplement plan can continue to access care at UHealth, regardless of the outcome of our negotiation.
Continuity of care allows UnitedHealthcare members in active treatment for a serious or complex condition with a provider at the time they left our network to continue receiving in-network benefits with their provider for a period of time after they went out of network.
For example, an individual in active treatment at UHealth for a condition such as cancer at the time they go out of network on Jan. 1, 2027 would be eligible for continuity of care.
UnitedHealthcare Preferred Care Network members must apply and be approved for continuity of care. They can apply at any time from now through 30 days after a provider has left our network. They should call the number on their health plan ID card if they need assistance or have questions. Our dedicated team of advocates are ready to support them every step of the way.
People enrolled in our Preferred Care Network plan will continue to have access to a large network of providers throughout South Florida. Some examples of health systems that remain in our network in the region include but are not limited to:
- Baptist Health Medical Group Physicians
- HCA Florida Mercy Hospital
- Memorial Healthcare System
- Mount Sinai Medical Center of Florida
UnitedHealthcare members should call the number on their health plan ID card if they need assistance finding another provider. They can also use the provider directory on our member website to search for alternative hospitals and doctors.
UnitedHealthcare members should go to the nearest hospital in the event of an emergency. Their care will be covered at the in-network benefit level, regardless of whether the hospital participates in our network.
